It is suprise that Naphthalene were used by insect to protect themselves. Mothballs were mainly use by human to keep moths and carpet beetles away from our clothes. Mothballs contain a chemical called Naphthalene, termites had been using it as a tunnel barrier to protect themselves against their predator. Being curious, experiment was carried out to test the effect of naphthalene on both fire ant and termite. Result was that fire ant was immobilised while the termite was not affected.
This shows that not only human could use mothballs but also insects. The only different is that human have to use industrial chemistry method to obtain while termite could obtain it naturally.
